Our Full Itinerary + Honest Review
Planning a family trip to Branson, Missouri with a toddler (and a big crew!) can feel overwhelming, but it ended up being such a fun and memorable vacation for us. We traveled with our daughter Frankie, who turned two during the trip, our dog Lola, my parents, and met up with my brother and sister-in-law. Here’s a full breakdown of where we stayed, what we did, what worked well, and what we’d change next time.
Trip Overview
Who: Our family of three (me, Sarah; my husband, Michael; and our daughter, Frankie), our dog Lola, my parents, plus my brother and sister-in-law.
Where: Branson, Missouri
Dates: April 20–28, 2024
Lodging: Branson Hideaway Cabin + Gameroom (Rent Branson)
VRBO in Little Rock, Arkansas on both travel days
Travel: We drove from Louisiana and broke up the trip by staying overnight in Little Rock on the way there and back.
Pre-Trip Planning
Before our trip I researched all the activities and places we would want to try to visit while in Branson.
Tip: This was especially important as some places (ex: Silver Dollar CIty) have limited days/hours during the off season.
Things on Our List
- Silver Dollar City
- Top of the Rock
- Dogwood Canyon Nature Park
- The Butterfly Palace
- Branson Landing
- Titanic Museum
- Table Rock Lake
- Branson Scenic Railway (We ultimately chose not to book the train ride, as it lasts about 1 hour and 45 minutes and didn’t feel like a great fit if our 2-year-old lost interest midway through.)
- Playgrounds (Tip: I always research toddler-friendly stops along the way for a long road trip)
Frankie’s birthday fell during the trip, so I pre-ordered a birthday cake from the local grocery store, Country Mart, in Branson. (It was delicious!)
We rented a crib through BabyQuip, which was already set up when we arrived — highly recommend!
Tip: if your child still sleeps in a crib at home, it is so worth the cost of renting a crib! BabyQuip was affordable for the week and they had the crib set up and ready for when we arrived.

Branson Recap
April 20 – Travel Day + Rainy Start
The drive from Louisiana to Branson is just over nine hours, so we decided to break it up and spend the night in Little Rock. Splitting the drive made the trip feel much more manageable with a toddler.
Because it was raining, we couldn’t stop at a playground to get some wiggles out. Instead, we made a Walmart stop and let Frankie burn off some energy there.
Our Little Rock VRBO was in a convenient location, but the layout was a bit tricky for traveling with a toddler. One bedroom could only be accessed through another, and there were a lot of knick-knacks within reach of curious little hands. Temperature control was also hit or miss, swinging between too warm and too cold.
The VRBO did provide a Pack ’n Play, which we used for Frankie and appreciated having it ready to go after a long travel day.
April 21 – Drive to Branson
We grabbed breakfast and stopped at the MacArthur Park playground in Little Rock before getting back on the road. This park was a huge hit, with great swings and plenty of space to run around. Frankie still talks about the “blue park”!.
The drive from Little Rock to Branson took about three hours. We stopped at Walmart to stock up on groceries and arrived in Branson around 5 p.m. BabyQuip had already delivered and set up the crib, which was a huge relief after a long travel day.
The cabin we rented was located at Branson Cedars Resort, and the area itself was beautiful. There was a park right down the street, along with disc golf and swimming pools, which made the location feel especially family-friendly. Our cabin was spacious, comfortable, and a great fit for the 7 of us.
April 22 – Silver Dollar City
Silver Dollar City opened at 10 a.m. and closed at 6 p.m. (why do kid-focused places never open earlier?).
We started the day by riding the train, not realizing there was a mid-ride “show” with pop guns. The loud noises scared Frankie, and she has refused to ride a train ever since.
Tip: If your toddler is sensitive to loud sounds, you may want to skip the train.
We grabbed lunch at Rivertown Smokehouse, which had great BBQ options and plenty of sides. Frankie mostly survived on snacks, and looking back, she probably needed more time to adjust to the stimulation of a busy theme park day.
Silver Dollar City has a great toddler ride area, and Frankie loved the Lucky Dalmatian, Jumping Frogs, and Butterflies rides. Everything is close together, making it easy to loop through and ride favorites multiple times.

We also stopped at Build-A-Bear, where Frankie picked out a cow, and spent time in the petting zoo area, which ended up being one of her favorite parts of the day. The goats and donkey were a big hit.
After some shopping in the Christmas store, Frankie finally fell asleep in the stroller around 3 p.m. as we made our way out of the park.
To end the day on a high note, my brother and sister-in-law brought back the famous Silver Dollar City cinnamon bread — which absolutely lived up to the hype.

April 23 – Top of the Rock + Branson Landing
Top of the Rock was one of our absolute favorite experiences of the entire trip. The self-guided golf cart tour took us past waterfalls, caves, and incredible views, and it felt very doable with a toddler. There’s also more to explore here, including the Ancient Ozarks Natural History Museum and several restaurants.
What kid doesn’t want to “drive” a golf cart? Frankie loved it. My only complaint is that it went by way too fast. We would have happily spent more time exploring, but the full loop took us about an hour, including a few stops along the way.

Afterward, we headed back to the cabin for a much-needed nap.
That afternoon, we celebrated Frankie’s birthday with cake before heading to Branson Landing. We wandered through Bass Pro (the fish tank was a hit), did a little shopping, and somehow ended up at Build-A-Bear again — this time she chose Chase.
We wrapped up the night with dinner at Cantina Laredo overlooking the water and fire show. Even with the rain, it was a fun, low-key way to end a really good day.
April 24 – Dogwood Canyon Nature Park
Dogwood Canyon Nature Park is absolutely stunning and one of our favorite spots from the trip. We spent the morning exploring the trails with the stroller and brought Lola along, which made it feel like a true family outing.
We wandered past waterfalls, old bridges, and the chapel, taking our time and letting Frankie enjoy the scenery. Afterward, we had lunch outside at the park’s restaurant, and the view of the waterfall was stunning. I love that this place (trails and outdoor seating) was dog-friendly!

My brother and sister-in-law rented bikes and rode the entire trail all the way into Arkansas!
While Frankie napped later that afternoon, Michael and I visited College of the Ozarks for ice cream and to see the animals.
Once she woke up, we opened birthday presents and ended the day with a walk to the park near our cabin.
April 25 – Toilet Troubles + Birthday Brunch
Of course, no family trip is complete without something going wrong. Our cabin toilet broke, and along with it came a not-so-great smell. While it was being replaced, we made the decision to stay out of the cabin as much as possible and picked up some air freshener to help once we could return.
It also happened to be Frankie’s birthday, so we leaned into making the day special despite the inconvenience. We started with brunch at Billy Gail’s, home of the famous 14-inch pancakes. The portions were massive, the food was comforting, and it felt like a fun birthday outing.
After brunch, Frankie fell asleep in the car, which gave us the perfect excuse to do some Christmas store shopping while she napped.
We spent the rest of the day out and about, giving the repair crew time to finish up before heading back to the cabin later that afternoon. Not what we had planned, but a good reminder that flexibility is everything when traveling.
April 26 – Rainy Day + WonderWorks

The rain returned this day, which meant another pivot in plans. We hadn’t originally planned to visit WonderWorks, but it turned out to be the perfect rainy-day activity.
The three of us headed over and were pleasantly surprised by how toddler-friendly it was. There was plenty to explore at Frankie’s pace, lots of hands-on areas, and enough space for her to move around and burn some energy. It ended up being one of those unplanned activities that worked really well for our family and was a nice reminder that flexibility often leads to the best moments when traveling with a toddler.
April 27 – Leaving Branson
On our last morning in Branson, we visited College of the Ozarks (this time with Frankie)! She loved seeing the cows, and it was a nice, low-key way to start the day.
Tip: I think College of the Ozarks would be a great place to add to a future trip itinerary for families with little ones.
Afterward, we checked out of the cabin and stopped for lunch at Table Rock State Park, where Frankie got to burn off a little extra energy at the playground.
Then, we hit the road back to Little Rock for the night. The next day, we made one final stop in Vicksburg for lunch and some playground time before finishing the drive home.

Final Thoughts: Branson, Missouri With a 2-Year-Old
Favorite Place: Dogwood Canyon Nature Park ( We would 100% visit Dogwood Canyon again on a future trip!)
Favorite Activity: Top of the Rock golf carts (Fun for all ages!)
Best Food: Silver Dollar City cinnamon bread
What Went Well
- The Branson cabin (minus the bathroom mishap) (Frankie had her own room and crib and slept all night just like at home.)
- Dogwood Canyon
- Top of the Rock
- WonderWorks
- BabyQuip crib rental — game-changer
What Didn’t Go as Planned
- The Little Rock VRBO — not toddler friendly
- Theme-park expectations; Silver Dollar City was fun but also stressful with a toddler
- The train “show” that scared Frankie
What We’d Do Differently Next Time
- Better planning + communication for theme park days
- Choose more toddler-friendly lodging
